Конспект внеклассного мероприятия

День Благодарения

для учащихся шестых классов

на английском языке

Подготовила и провела

Цель: включить учащихся в культурное пространство англоязычных стран

через изучение национальных особенностей праздника День Благодарения в США.

Задачи:

1. активизировать новую лексику по теме, закрепить ее посредством активного участия учащихся в игровой деятельности;

2. совершенствовать устную речь;

3. развить навыки чтения, аудирования;

4. закрепить навыки орфографии;

5. способствовать развитию творческих способностей, логического и образного мышления учащихся

Оборудование:

1. оформление кабинета: плакаты с изображением символов праздника – кукуруза, индюшка, тыква; тематические картинки; макет корабля “Mayflower”; муляжи овощей и фруктов; мягкие игрушки, воздушные шары; надпись в виде букв “Thanksgiving Day”;

2. костюмы индейцев и пилигримов;

3. жетоны в форме индюков;

4. компьютерная презентация об истории и традициях праздника; слайды с заданиями “Correct the invitation”, “Match the phrases’, “Find the way”, “Unscramble the words”, “Search the words” и правильными вариантами ответов;

5. праздничные открытки в качестве домашнего задания;

6. карточки с заданиями для команд в двух экземплярах.

Ход праздника:

Ведущий 1: Hello, dear guests!

Ведущий 2: Hello, boys and girls! And so, what date is it today? Right you are. It is the 26^th of November.

Ведущий 1: And what day of the week is it? OK, it is Thursday. American people celebrate one of their national holidays today. Do you know what it is?

Ведущий 2: Of course, it is Thanksgiving Day. We are glad to see you at our Thanksgiving Party! (слайды 1,2)

Ведущий 1: People have always given thanks at harvest time. They are glad to have food for the winter and celebrate it with prayers of thanksgiving.

Pupil 1: Thank you

For all my hands can hold –

Apples red and melons gold,

Yellow corn both ripe and sweet,

Peas and beans, so good to eat.

Pupil 2: Thank you

For all my eyes can see

Lovely sunlight, field and tree,

White cloud boats in sea deep sky,

Soaring bird and butterfly.

Pupil 3: Thank you

For all my ears can hear –

Birds’ song echoing far and near,

Songs of little stream, big sea,

Cricket, bullfrog, ducks, and bee!

Ведущий 2: Thank you very much. Let’s remember the history of the holiday.

Pupil 4: Thanksgiving started about 350 years ago in America. The Pilgrims sailed there from Plymouth, England, in September, 1620. The name of their ship was Mayflower. They were looking for religious freedom. So the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, now the state of Massachusetts, in December, 1620 (слайд 3).

Pupil 5: The Pilgrims’ first winter in the New World was difficult. They had arrived too late in the year to grow any crops. Without fresh food many of the pilgrims died.

Pupil 6: The following spring the Indians taught them how to hunt, fish, plant, and survive in America. The crops did well and in the fall of 1621the Pilgrims had а great harvest. They were thankful and decided to celebrate it.

Pupil 7: They prepared a three-day fast of turkey, corn, beans, and pumpkins. They invited their Indian friends who brought food to the feast to share with them too.

Pupil 8: Thanksgiving became a national holiday because a woman named Sarah Hale for 40 years wrote to each President asking for a holiday of Thanksgiving. At last she succeeded (слайд 4).

Pupil 9: In 1863 President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as a national holiday. It is associated with certain symbols, such as a horn of plenty, a turkey, Pilgrim and Indian figures, and food: roast turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pies, cranberries or cranberry sauce (слайды 5-8).

Pupil 10: Nowadays Americans still celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the fall. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. And turkey is still the main dish and pumpkin pie is the most popular dessert (слайд 9).

Ведущий 1: Thank you for the interesting story. Let us go on celebrating the holiday. We have two groups of pupils from the sixth form here.

Ведущий 2: Each group has its name: one is called “Indians” and another is “Pilgrims”. They are going to play and compete to see which team is the best.

Ведущий 1: You know the turkey is a symbol of Thanksgiving Day. Each team should get as many turkeys as it can for each correct answer.

Ведущий 2: Let’s start then!

Ведущий 1: The first is our homework: show us a costume of an Indian and one of a Pilgrim! These are costumes prepared by “Indians”, and these are done by “Pilgrims”. (Звучит музыка, на сцену выходят представители команд в костюмах индейца и пилигрима, по два костюма от каждой команды)

Ведущий 2: Dear judges, try to appreciate whose costumes are the best. (Жюри оценивает костюмы)

Ведущий 1: And our teams should sing a song they like best. “Indians”, are you ready? (Исполняется песня “Ten little Indians”, возможна песня “This is the way”)

Ведущий 2: And now “Pilgrims”, it’s your turn to sing! (Звучит песня “My Bonny”, возможна песня “We shall overcome”)

Ведущий 1: Thanksgiving Day is an opportunity for us to express our gratitude to people who love and care for us. Thanksgiving Day Card is one of the most preferred ways of expressing gratitude (слайды 10-14). Our teams made the cards themselves. Here they are!
Ведущий 2: Will you show the cards and read your gratitude, please! (представители команд демонстрируют свои поздравительные открытки и читают слова благодарности)

Ведущий 1: Thanksgiving Day is a time for tradition. Even if people live far away from home, the family gathers for a reunion at the house of an older relative. All give thanks together for the good things that they have.

Ведущий 2: Now each team gets an invitation and corrects the mistakes in it (слайд 15):

Каждая команда должна найти и исправить семь ошибок, зрители подсчитывают количество ошибок в приглашении, спроецированном на доске, звучит мелодия; после сдачи работ командами предъявляется исправленный вариант приглашения. По количеству правильно исправленных ошибок команды получают жетоны – «индюков».

Ведущий 1: The next game is matching (слайд 16). Look at the list of phrases on the left and match them to the phrases on the right. You will get one point for each correct match. So try out this matching game – you can have 10 turkeys more! (Звучит музыка)

Ведущий 2: Hand in your sheets of paper! This is the right matching (слайд 17).

Ведущий 1: Which team is the quickest I wonder? Can you help the Mother Turkey reach the child (слайд 18)?

And which of the four Pilgrims is going to get to the prize turkey do you think? (слайд 19)

Возможно задание «Разгадай кроссворд» (слайд 20), болельщикам / зрителям предлагается игра «Выбери английский эквивалент русской пословицы» (слайды 22, 23).

Ведущий 2: Now discover the listed words from the puzzle as quick as possible! Read and translate the words! (слайд 24)

Ведущий 1: Today we have learned that some words are connected with Thanksgiving today. What are they? Unscramble the words (слова с переставленными буквами представлены на доске, слайды 26, 28). Во время работы команд исполняется танец в стиле «кантри».

Ведущий 2: Compare your results with the solutions presented here! Get your turkeys again!

Ведущий 1: Now let's speak English! Listen to the sentences about Thanksgiving Day and say “That’s right” or “That’s wrong”. If you say “wrong”, correct the sentences.

1. Thanksgiving Day is a British holiday.

2. This day is one of the most important holidays in America.

3. People celebrate the holiday in offices.

4. They eat bacon and eggs to celebrate Thanksgiving Day.

5. Since 1620 turkey has become a symbol of Thanksgiving Day.

6. Americans celebrate the holiday on the fourth Friday in November.

Ведущий 2: Very good! Here are your turkeys! American children like to recite poems. Do you know any about Thanksgiving? Представители каждой команды декламируют стихи, за каждый получая жетон. Кто больше?

Ведущий 1: Well done! Get more turkeys, count them! Hand in your turkeys to our judges! Are you tired? Do you like to play games? Do you want to play now? Let’s play then! (слайд 30)

Ведущий 2: American children like to play the game called “Cornucopia” (слайды 31, 32). Do you know the game?

Дети рассаживаются на стулья, стоящие по окружности. Игроков на одного больше, чем стульев. Ребенок без стула водит: он раздает сидящим картинки с изображением овощей и фруктов, при этом называет их, а получающий картинку повторяет слово. Затем ведущий называет два слова из прозвучавших, например: “Corn and apple”. Выбранные игроки должны быстро поменяться местами. Так продолжается, пока ведущий не произнесет слова: “The cornucopia has tipped over!” («Рог изобилия рассыпался!») Каждый игрок, включая ведущего, должен занять новое место; оставшийся без стула – новый ведущий. Игра продолжается. (Можно дать название одного и того же овоща двум игрокам – будет больше волнующих моментов.)

Во время игры жюри подводит итоги конкурсов.

Ведущий 1: Now let’s listen to our judges! What is the score? Who is the winner today?

Жюри объявляет итоги соревнования двух команд.

По окончании на сцену выходят 12 детей с повернутыми обратной стороной буквами английского алфавита, каждый декламирует свою строчку, переворачивая и показывая букву зрителям:

T is for the trust the pilgrims had so many years ago,
H is for the harvest the settlers learnt to grow,
A is for America, the land in which we live,
N is for nature and beauty which she gives,
K is for kindness, gentle words, thoughtful deeds,
S is for smiles, the sunshine everyone needs,
G is for gratitude... our blessings big and small,
I is for ideas, letting wisdom grow tall,
V is for voices, singing, laughing, always caring,
I is for Indians, who taught them about sharing,
N is for neighbours, across the street, over the sea,
G is for giving of myself to make a better me.

Все вместе: Happy Thanksgiving!

Кладут на пол карточки с буквами алфавита, берутся за руки, звучит мелодия песни “We are all friends together!”, дети поют песню, выполняя движения:

We are all friends together,

Together, together.

We are all friends together,

Hip-hip-hip, hooray!

For my friend is your friend,

And your friend is my friend.

We are all friends together,

Hip-hip-hip, hooray!

Ведущий 2: Now comes the time for Thanksgiving dinner!

Ведущий 1: Thanksgiving is the time to feel gratitude to God for all the good things in life. It is a time to be thankful (слайды 33-35).

Ведущий 2: Find something, no matter how small, to be thankful for, even for only a moment.

Представители команд усаживаются за столом, по очереди произносят «молитвы»:

For health and strength and daily food we praise thy name, o Lord!

For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee!

Oh give thanks to the God of heaven, for his love to us forever!
Thanksgiving
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
