It is a common knowledge that there are lots oflanguages in the world, and some of them fallinto category of international languages orlanguages of wider communication group, suchas English, French, German, Spanish, Russian,Italian and Arabic.

All these languages are theofficial languages of the UN.



Geographically, English is the most widespreadlanguage on Earth, second only to MandarinChinese in the number of people who speak it.

Outside the United Kingdom and the Republic ofIreland, English is a native language in manycountries, and the major language of five — GreatBritain, the United State of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Despite the greatdistances separating these five English-speakingcommunities from each other and from theBritish Isles and great social and culturaldifferences between them, the forms of Englishwhich they use remain mutually intelligible.

Buteach area of the English-speaking world hasdeveloped its own special characteristics, its ownvocabulary and pronunciation characteristics. Many people in England possess so called Received Pronunciation, derived from the public school system attended by the boys from rich families. Received Pronunciation remains the accent of the elite. English in the USA differs considerably from British English.But American English and British English are not separate languages. It is one language in different variations.There are no important differences in written form between the English of Great Britain and that of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or indeed South Africa. The literary language of the five communities is virtually identical. Grammatically, too, the English of all five is relatively uniform, except that each has developed its own colloquial idioms. Thus it is in the everyday spoken language that main differences lie.
