The construction of in situ concrete external columns and precast floors and balcony units enable the constructors to complete the 38-storeyed Congress Hotel in Augsburg, Germany, in only nine month. The hotel occupies 17 floors above ground level, 15 contain flats and two top floors contain restaurant and a viewing platform. In each of the four-day working cycles the in situ concrete external columns for one floor were cast with their facings of precast units acting as permanent formwork. The floor slabs were also placed in position, the joints grouted and the balcony slabs fixed with welded connection and in situ concrete joints.
