Цель урока: ознакомление учащихся с обычаями и традициями празднования праздника “St. Valentine’s Day”

Задачи урока:

Обучающие:

1) Познакомить учащихся с традициями и обычаями празднования дня святого Валентина в Великобритании

2) Способствовать формированию у учащихся навыков лингвострановедческой компетенции

3) Активизировать лексику по теме “St. Valentine’s Day”

Развивающие:

1) Развивать навыки чтения, творческую фантазию, познавательный интерес, инициативу в осуществлении иноязычной речевой деятельности

Воспитательные:

1) Воспитывать у учащихся чувство прекрасного и уважение к культуре и традициям других народов

2) Воспитывать чувство взаимной ответственности, прививать навыки работы в коллективе.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

- Good morning, dear boys and girls! Glad to see you! How are you? Do you like holidays?

- What British holidays do you know? We start our lesson, which connected with a beautiful holiday, one of the most popular in Great Britain. On the 14th of February people celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. This holiday is the favourite holiday of all English children and adults. We will read about history of this holiday, do interesting tasks and solve puzzles. I hope you’ll enjoy our English lesson and be friendly to each other. I wish you good luck! Let’s start!

St. Valentine's Day is a religious holiday, which is celebrated in Great Britain, in many European countries and in the USA. St. Valentine's Day has roots in several legends.

One of the early symbols of love is Cupid, the Roman God of Love, who is represented as a young boy with a bow and arrow.
One legend says that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome
When Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men, Valentine, continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -who may have been his jailor's daughter -who visited him during his confinement.

Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.
